NYCLA’s flagship initiative, the Aspiring Principals Program (APP) prepares exceptional leaders to transform our nation’s most challenging schools. Our approach prepares participants for the realities of the principalship through practical experiences that are aligned with research- and behavior-based school leadership standards, school system policies and reform efforts.
What does this work look like specifically, and what do the participants gain from these hands-on experiences? We sat down with several participants in the Bainum Family Foundation’s Advancement for Christian Education (ACE) Academy to capture their observations in our first program adaptation for a national cohort of leaders. In the video, ACE Academy participants describe: the benefits of NYCLA’s experiential, standards-based approach; role of coaches and mentor principals in their leadership growth; and being a part of a national cohort of aspiring leaders.
