More and more often, we hear and read about the work of “leading for equity.” But what does that mean? What can that work look like? In “What it Takes: Leading Districts for Equity”, Newburgh School Board President Carole Mineo and Board Member Philip Howard, Superintendent Roberto Padilla, and Executive Director of Equity and Access Ebony Green share how they are taking a systemic approach to undoing inequities in their schools and impacting their students’ lives. The film also highlights the Leadership Academy’s own equity work and features our President & CEO Irma Zardoya, Superintendents-in-Residence Ann Clark and Valeria Silva, Leadership Academy Chief Strategy Officer Nancy Gutiérrez, Vice President of District Leadership Support Mary Rice-Boothe, and National Leadership Designer and Facilitator Derick Spaulding.
We urge you to view and share this film, generously supported by the Booth Ferris Foundation, with colleagues in person and over social media. For a deeper look at Newburgh’s equity work, please also take a look at a recent blog by the district’s equity officer Ebony Green. We believe the film offers a seed for critical conversations about the importance of focusing on issues of equity and what equity work could and should look like in school districts across the country.
