NYCLA was recently awarded a two year, $100,000 grant from The New York Community Trust. This funding will be used for our newest initiative, Targeted Intensive School Support (TISS). TISS is a five-year program that teams 50 graduates of our Aspiring Principals Program with Assistant Principals and Teacher Leaders trained in NYCLA’s Leadership Advancement Program and other programs, and prepares them to work in some of New York City’s highest-need public schools. These newly minted administrative teams will receive extended coaching and other individualized support over their first three years on the job, to address the challenges of turning around chronically underperforming schools. Support from The New York Community Trust, one of New York City’s most central and respected funders of education, is a tremendous vote of confidence in the vital role that school leadership plays in the success of local youth.

TISS was launched with the help of an Investing in Innovation (i3) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This generous grant from our newest supporter, The New York Community Trust, combined with a previous grant from our long-standing supporter, the Wallace Foundation, provides crucial matching funds for that i3 grant. Together, these grants are helping NYCLA bring this bold new program to the school leaders—and students—of New York City. We greatly appreciate their contribution to our success.
